Save the planet before even leaving the house in the morning
If you love coffee and the planet then Coffee capsules are for you.
Not only are these biodegradable compostable coffee capsules cost-effective, but they’re also eco-friendly – reducing the amount of aluminium and plastic landing up in our already overloaded landfills. This is done by allowing you to simply pop them in a plant pot or in the soil of your garden, or even in your compost bin if you have one.
Many Nespresso machine owners have wondered how to reduce the amount of waste produced by single-serve coffee pods. Which has led Brewers Coffee to develop our compostable coffee pods just for you and your eco-friendly mind.
Bio & Compost pods comply with OK BIOBASED and OK COMPOST certifications. Made from totally organic material, these pods will turn your machine green. The paper lids are made from new forest growth trees.
The pods will generally breakdown within 3 months of being places in a moist compost environment.
OUR OBSESSION with PLA
Did you know that around 26% of the 311 million tonnes of plastic produced every year is used as plastic packaging. Most plastic doesn’t get recycled either (only 14% does) so it keeps ending up in places where it shouldn’t. Like the 8 million tonnes of plastic that finds its way into our oceans every year – that’s like dumping the contents of a garbage truck into the ocean every minute!
Sadly, most standard (petroleum-based plastic) coffee pods fall into these mammoth statistics. The Brewers Coffee pods, however, are unique because they are made solely from plant-based plastics (polylactic acids), or if you’re lazy like us, PLA’s.
COMPOSTABLE COFFEE POD
The secret lies in the material used in our plant-based pods. We make them entirely from sugarcane and sugar beet (sweet, right?). This means that under certain conditions the capsules will fully break-down into compost.
Most coffee pods use an aluminium to keep the coffee fresh, but we don’t. Aluminium not only leaves a nasty toxic trail after disposal, but is also non-renewable, and requires lots of energy and chemicals to produce. Instead, we have built-in a plant-based oxygen barrier to keep our coffee fresh. This means that our entire pod can be chewed up, and spat out by our little microbial friends, leaving behind biomass, CO2 and water.
Unlike the plant-based plastics we use, most conventional coffee capsules are made from petroleum-based plastics. Microorganisms cannot digest these materials, and so a bit like us, they stay well clear of them!
HOW TO USE OUR PODS
Simply use the Brewers Coffee Pods the same way you would any other coffee pod. They work in all Nespresso® Machines. Once you have enjoyed your coffee and it is time to throw the pod out, remember these aren’t any ordinary pods!
If you throw away your used capsules in the regular waste bin, then they may end up in landfill, recycled, or incinerated. In all three cases, the Brewers Coffee pods will have less of an impact than the conventional coffee pods. But to get the best out of our pods, put them in the bio-bin or compost bin.
